Easy riding, real surf beaches

Noosa Surf Beaches Ride

A relaxed coastal run out through the surf villages of Sunshine Beach and Marcus Beach to the village green at Peregian, almost entirely on sealed paths and quiet back streets. Gentle gradients the whole way, which makes it one of the easiest long rides we do. A great way to find the quieter beach villages most visitors drive straight past.

Sunshine Beach The first village on the route, tucked under pandanus on the south side of the Noosa National Park headland, and the start of a 15 km run of open surf beach. Duke Street has the cafes and shops, and the surf club sits above the sand with the best view of the swell.
Noosa National Park, Peregian The route runs along the western edge of coastal wallum heath, low and open and nothing like the rainforest gullies inland. Brahminy kites work the thermals overhead, wallum froglets call from the wetter patches, and the wildflowers peak from July through September.
Quiet Coastal Back Streets Between the villages the route uses residential streets and bike paths through Marcus Beach and Castaways: shaded, almost no traffic, and the dunes one block to your left the whole way.
Wetland to Open Ocean The ride starts by crossing Weyba Creek and skirting Noosa Springs, so the first half hour is mangroves and still water. Forty minutes later you're looking at open surf. Not many rides in Noosa change character that completely.
Patrolled Ocean Swims Sunshine Beach and Peregian Beach both have surf lifesaving clubs, so unlike the river swims on our other rides you can get into real surf between the flags. These are open ocean beaches though, so check the conditions before you go in.
Peregian Beach Village The turnaround, and a good one. The village square sits one street back from the sand under shady trees, with cafes, a bakery, boutiques and a beachfront playground and skate park. Markets run on the first and third Sunday of the month.

Ride Overview

Starting from the shop in Noosaville, the route runs out on sealed shared paths beside Walter Hay Drive and Eenie Creek Road, through the underpass, across Weyba Creek and past Noosa Springs. It’s sealed end to end, with about 330 m of climbing spread across 37 km and nothing steep, which makes it a comfortable ride for recreational riders, families and anyone on an e-bike.

The ride then climbs gently into Sunshine Beach, where the surf club and the cafe strip make an obvious first stop. From there it drops onto quiet back streets and bike paths through Marcus Beach and Castaways, running along the western edge of the Peregian section of Noosa National Park, before arriving at Peregian Beach village.

Peregian is the turnaround. The return leg retraces the coast to Sunshine Beach, then picks up the path along Eenie Creek Road and crosses back over Weyba Creek into Noosaville. Nothing on the route is steeper than about 5 percent and it’s sealed the whole way, so the climbing is spread out rather than concentrated.
