Noosa North Shore Beach Ride

A short ferry across the Noosa River, then open sand for as far as you want to ride, with dunes on one side and the Pacific on the other. Fat tyre e-bikes only, and timed around low tide, which is exactly what keeps it feeling remote.

Riding on Smooth Sand Nothing else we hire feels like this. Wide, low pressure tyres float where a normal bike would bog down inside a few metres, and once you find the firm sand the bike simply goes. Most people spend the first hundred metres grinning.
Sand 4WDs Don't Use Here's the part most people don't realise. You reach the sand at a vehicle access point, then turn away from the traffic: the stretch you ride sits between the vehicle beach to the north and the vehicle beach to the south, and both ends are marked clearly on your map. Kilometres of open coast, the dunes on one side, the Pacific on the other, and often nobody else on it.
A Proper Beach, Properly Managed This coast is a gazetted road managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife, the southern end of a long stretch of sand running north past Teewah and the coloured sand cliffs to Double Island Point, Rainbow Beach and K'gari. It's a recognised, managed route, not a loophole. You just get to ride it at bike speed instead of seeing it from the back of a four wheel drive tour.
The Ferry Crossing Roll the bikes onto the deck, the ramp lifts, and a few minutes later you step off somewhere that feels an hour from Noosa. It's the only vehicle ferry on the river, so you cross alongside the four wheel drives and the boat traffic, and by the time you reach the far bank the roads have run out and the sand has taken over. For most riders this is the moment the day turns into an adventure.
Two Rides In One The first half hour is mangrove and saltmarsh along the Lake Doonella pathway, the shallowest lake in the Noosa Everglades system and a declared fish habitat. Half an hour after that you're on open ocean beach with nothing in front of you. Not many rides anywhere hand you both in a morning.
2-for-1 at Land & Sea Brewery Land & Sea Brewery is directly across the road from our shop, so you finish the ride about thirty seconds from a cold one. Pick up your 2-for-1 drinks voucher from us when you return. Trading hours vary, so check before you ride. They make it all on the one site in Noosaville, from craft beer to small batch spirits, seltzers and canned cocktails.

Ride Overview

From Noosaville the route runs on shared paths through the Lake Doonella wetlands into Tewantin, then straight down Moorindil Street to the ferry. The crossing takes a couple of minutes and a small fee is paid directly to the ferry operator.

On the far side, Maximillian Road and Beach Road lead down to the beach access, the same one the four wheel drives use. Once you’re on the sand you turn away from them. The section you ride sits between the vehicle beach to the north and the vehicle beach to the south, and both ends are marked on your map, so what you get in between is firm sand, dunes to your left, open ocean to your right and very little else. Ride out as far as you feel like going, then turn and come back the same way. How far you get, and how easy it feels, depends entirely on the tide and the sand.

Back across on the ferry, the return leg follows the river through Tewantin, past Noosa Marina and along the shared paths beside Hilton Terrace and Wallace Drive into Noosaville. Land & Sea Brewery sits directly across the road from our shop if you want to finish with a cold drink. Trading hours vary, so check before you ride.
