This is our core program and where most Bike On riders start. One afternoon a week, your child rides with a small group at their own level, learns a skill properly, then goes and uses it out on the trails with a coach alongside them.
It is deliberately low pressure. There is no selection, no season, and nobody sitting out. Riders progress at their own pace and move up a group when they are ready, not when the calendar says so.
Groups run from children who are just starting out on trails and can already ride down a green trail, through to advanced riders training towards racing. Most families stay with us for years, and plenty of our younger coaches started here as students.
Weekly Coaching Sessions
90 minutes every week of term.
PMBIA Qualified Coaches
Groups matched by ability and adjusted as riders progress.
Weekly Coach Updates
An update in the Bike On app every week, plus skill ratings and video feedback.
Partner Discounts

Every Bike On session follows the same shape, whatever the level.
It starts with a warm up ride. Coaches use it to see how everyone is riding on the day and to settle riders into their groups.
Then one focus skill. The coach introduces a single skill, shows where it gets used on the trail and why it matters, and riders practise it somewhere controlled until it starts to feel natural.
Then out on the trail. The rest of the session is spent riding, putting that skill to work on real trails with a coach alongside giving feedback as they go.
Most of every session is spent riding. Skills are taught so they can be used, not drilled in a car park.
Groups are set by riding ability, not age. The ages below are a guide only, and it is completely normal for a nine year old and a thirteen year old to ride in the same group.
If you are unsure which level to book choose the level below. It is easy for us to move a rider up. It is much harder on a child to spend a term hanging on at the back of a group that is beyond them or feel like they have been “demoted” if they are moved to a different group
You do not have to get this exactly right. Coaches run a short riding assessment in the first session and adjust groups over the first week or two. That is normal and it is not a judgement on your child.
| Group | Typical age | In simple terms |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | 5-7 | For riders who have the basics down on smooth dirt trails but have limited MTB experience. Your child should:
New to MTB trails? If your child hasn’t ridden an actual mountain bike trail before, particularly younger riders, we’d recommend starting with one of our holiday programs. Parents can contact us if they’re unsure. |
| Lower Intermediate | 7-10 | For riders who have ridden MTB trails before and can manage basic trails on their own.
|
| Intermediate | 8-12 | For confident singletrack riders who are starting to make their own line and speed decisions.
|
| Upper Intermediate | 9-14 | Coached rider with strong fundamentals, comfortable on technical terrain. Strong fundamentals assumed Everything we teach at these levels is built on solid fundamentals. Braking, cornering and body position need to be correct first, or the skills we add on top have nothing to hold them up. Most riders develop that through formal coaching, though some get there on their own. If you are not sure whether your rider is ready, get in touch before booking and we will help you work it out. |
| Advanced | 12-17 | Extensively coached rider, confident on advanced technical terrain and at speed. Prior coaching assumed Everything we teach at these levels is built on solid fundamentals. Braking, cornering and body position need to be correct first, or the skills we add on top have nothing to hold them up. Most riders develop that through formal coaching, though some get there on their own. If you are not sure whether your rider is ready, get in touch before booking and we will help you work it out. |
| Race | 14+ | Competitive Enduro/DH riders with strong technical ability, fitness and race experience. Comfortable riding black and double-black terrain. Prior coaching and racing assumed Riders at this level are usually racing already or training towards their first season. If you are not sure whether your rider is ready, get in touch before booking and we will help you work it out. |
Mountain biking is riding off road, on dirt trails through bushland. It is not BMX, and it is not racing unless your child chooses that later. Most of our riders never pin on a number, though plenty go on to coach with us.
Riding more is not the same as getting better. Left to work it out alone, most kids find a way down that feels safe rather than one that works: sitting down when it gets steep, grabbing at the back brake, staring at the front wheel. Those habits form fast and get harder to undo every year.
Coaching gives them a method. We break riding into the skills it is made of, braking, body position, cornering, looking ahead, choosing a line, and build them one at a time. That is what PMBIA coaching is: a proven sequence, rather than a faster adult saying “just follow me”.
Mostly it is a safety argument. Most crashes come from a gap in skill rather than bad luck, and a rider taught where to look, where to brake and where to put their weight is safer on every trail they ever ride. Including the ones they go and find with their mates when you are not there.
My son absolutely loves it
“His confidence on the trails has grown so much, but more importantly, he looks forward to riding with his group every week. The coaches are fantastic with the kids.”
Sarah
Such a great program
“The coaches make it fun while still teaching proper skills and technique. Our daughter has progressed more in a few months than we expected, and she’s made some great riding friends along the way.”
Kate
Hooked from the first session
“We started with the monthly option to see if it was right for our son, and he was hooked from the first session. It’s relaxed, supportive and really well organised. He comes home every week excited about what he’s learnt.”
Michael

Every session runs with multiple coaches and multiple groups, so your child rides at a level that suits them rather than at the pace of the strongest kid there. Groups run at six to eight riders to a coach, which is small enough that every rider gets watched and spoken to individually in every session.
All Bike On coaches hold PMBIA qualifications, the international mountain bike coaching accreditation. PMBIA uses a skills based method that breaks riding into its fundamentals and consolidates one at a time. It is the method behind everything we run, from a first afternoon on the trails through to the Advanced Development Program.
All coaches also hold current first aid certification and a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
We do our best to let friends ride together, but we will not put a rider into a group they are not ready for. Riders can usually drop back a level if they ask.
Every Bike On rider has a profile in our coaching app. Coaches record what each rider is working on, rate them against the individual skills that make up good riding, and write notes after sessions. Where seeing it helps more than hearing it, coaches capture a short video clip so a rider can watch what their bike and body are actually doing.
It means the coaching follows your child. If they change groups, change coach, or come back after a term off, their next coach picks up where the last one left off instead of starting again.
Your child’s coach posts an update in the app every week, so you can see what they worked on and what is coming next.
Bike On is built as a pathway rather than a class. A rider who starts in an after school group at seven has somewhere to go every year after that, and none of it has to be racing.
Nobody is pushed down any of these. Riders move when they want to, and plenty ride for fun the whole way through.
Lifestyle
Where most of our riders end up, and a real destination rather than a consolation prize. Riding for fun, riding with mates, road trips, holidays, trail building. A sport they will still be doing at forty.
Intro to race
For riders who get curious about the competitive side. Race focused lessons, coaching on the actual race trails beforehand and support on the day, so a first race is not a leap into the unknown.
Performance race
For riders who are serious about it. Race focused programs, strength and conditioning, pre race trail visits, race day support, and sponsorship for some.
Instruct
Riders who get far enough can sit their PMBIA Level One, take casual work with us as a junior MTB instructor, and go further from there. Several of our current coaches started here as students. It is one of very few junior sports where a teenager can turn the thing they love into a recognised qualification and a paid job.
Not every level runs at every location every term. The booking options show what is available.
Beginner (typically 5-7). For riders who have the basics down on smooth dirt trails but have limited MTB experience.
Lower Intermediate (typically 7-10). For riders who have ridden MTB trails before and can manage basic trails on their own.
Intermediate (typically 8-12). For confident singletrack riders who are starting to make their own line and speed decisions.
Upper Intermediate (typically 9-14). Coached rider with strong fundamentals, comfortable on technical terrain.
Advanced (typically 12-17). Extensively coached rider, confident on advanced technical terrain and at speed.
Race (typically 14+). Competitive Enduro/DH riders with strong technical ability, fitness and race experience.
Typically suited to riders aged 5–17, although there is no strict age limit. This is not a learn-to-ride program; riders must meet the minimum riding standard before joining.
Bike requirements
Rider must bring
Strongly recommended
Important. Unsafe bikes cannot be used, and parents cannot give permission for their child to ride a bike we consider dangerous. Riders without water, a way to carry it, and a spare tube that fits their bike will not be permitted to ride. There is no refund or credit where a rider cannot take part because of their bike or gear. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Term programs and monthly memberships. Term programs are priced on roughly 7 of 10 weeks running. We aim to run all 10, and we ride in the rain when it is safe. Storms or unsafe trails mean we postpone, change or cancel, and the notice goes up in the parent portal. There are no credits, refunds or make-up lessons for sessions cancelled for weather or missed for any reason, and we do not move riders between groups. If an unusually high number of sessions are cancelled, we look at it across the whole term and holiday period, not month by month. Full details are in our Booking Terms and Conditions.
School holiday programs. We ride in light rain. If we cancel a day because of weather or unsafe trails, the notice goes up in the parent portal. If you paid for the day, you can choose a credit or a refund. If your rider chooses not to come because of the weather, there is no credit or refund. Our standard change and cancellation terms apply to everything else. Members book included days through the parent portal, and should only book days their rider will attend. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Every session starts with a warm up ride, then one focus skill practised somewhere controlled.
The rest of the session is spent out on the trails putting that skill to use, with a coach giving feedback as they ride.
Arrive 15 minutes early. A coach will check your child’s bike over, introduce themselves, and run a short riding assessment so your child starts in the right group.
Bring a helmet, enclosed shoes, water they can carry, and a spare tube that fits their wheels. Full details under Bike and Equipment.
Expect the group to change in the first week or two. That is us getting the fit right.
You do not need to stay. Plenty of parents wait at the trailhead and plenty drop off and come back at the end. Either is fine. Once the session starts, riders are out on the trail with their coach and parents do not follow along.
Noosa, Tuesday and Thursday. Drop off at Tinbeerwah Hall, 3:45pm. Pick up at Wooroi Day Use Area, 5:15pm. The Noosa session starts and finishes in different places. Riders ride from Tinbeerwah through to Wooroi, so please plan for a different pick up point.
Gympie, Monday. Victory Heights Recreational Trails. Drop off 3:45pm, pick up 5:15pm.
Parklands (Nambour), Wednesday. Parklands MTB Trails, Radar Hill Road, Parklands. Drop off 3:45pm, pick up 5:15pm.
Caloundra, Monday and Friday. Sugar Bag Road, Caloundra West, main car park. Drop off 3:45pm, pick up 5:15pm.
No. Riding more makes a child fitter and more familiar with the trail. Coaching makes them better. Every session has a specific skill goal, and our coaches work to a structured curriculum that builds across the term, so what your child learns in week three is set up by what they learned in week two.
That is also why attendance matters more here than it would for a casual ride. Missing the odd week is no disaster, but this works like swimming squad or music lessons. The rider who is there every week keeps building. The one who dips in and out spends part of each session catching up on the last one. It is worth treating as a standing weekly commitment rather than a week by week decision.
Possibly. Riders need to be able to descend an easy trail standing on the pedals, roll over small roots and rocks, stop using their hand brakes without putting a foot down, and ride a geared bike up and down gentle dirt. If your child is not quite there, a school holiday program or a private lesson is the better way in. Tell us what they can do now and we will give you a straight answer.
Your child needs a trail worthy geared bike with two working hand brakes and tyres with tread on them.
If you are about to buy one, talk to us first. We would rather spend five minutes helping you choose than see you spend money on a bike that will not do the job. If you need something to ride in the meantime, we hire mountain bikes at 50% off the standard rate for program riders, collected from our Noosaville shop.
No. You are welcome to wait at the trailhead, and plenty of parents do, but you are just as welcome to drop off and come back at the end.
What parents cannot do is follow the group. Sessions ride singletrack, and coaches need to run the group without a parent on the trail behind them, so once the session starts your child is with their coach.
That is worth thinking about before you book. Riders need to be comfortable heading off with a coach and a group of kids they may not know yet. If you think your child would need you out there with them, they are probably not quite ready for this program, and that is completely normal at some ages. A private lesson or a school holiday program is a better place to start and we will get them there.
Most riders arrive not knowing anyone. Groups are small, riders spend the whole session riding together, and making friends is one of the main reasons families stay with us for years. It is a good fit for kids who do not love team sport but still want to be part of something.
Tell the coach. Group placement is a judgement made in the first session and we fully expect to adjust it. Moving a rider up or down is routine and nobody makes anything of it.
We ride in the rain. Sessions are only called off when the weather or the trail is genuinely unsafe. Every cancellation is posted on the session card in the parent portal and emailed to every address registered against your child’s account. When the weather is uncertain, we decide by about 3:00pm. Our shop staff see the same information as the portal, so please check the portal rather than calling. Make sure the portal has the right email addresses, including both parents if that suits you. Absences are also recorded through the portal. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Missed sessions are not credited, refunded or made up. Groups run to strict capacity and are set by size and skill level, so we do not move riders into another session to catch up. Programs are priced on roughly 7 of 10 weeks running, and we run the extra weeks whenever conditions allow. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Monthly membership is the best value and the most flexible. No lock in, school holiday riding included, and you can cancel any time through your account.
A term booking is paid once for the whole term and is final once paid, with no refunds if your child stops partway through. It does not include holiday programs.
If you are not sure yet, take the monthly membership. It is also our trial.
Not a single lesson, no. A monthly membership is our trial: no lock in, cancel any time, and a month gives your child time to settle in with a new coach and group.
Not sure mountain biking is their thing at all? A school holiday program is a lower commitment way to find out.
Yes. A monthly membership is paid monthly in advance, has no minimum period, and renews automatically until you cancel it in My Account. Cancel whenever you like and your child keeps riding until the end of the month you have paid for.
Payments are final, so there are no refunds, credits or transfers for the unused part. Memberships cannot be paused (only cancelled), and once cancelled your child’s place is released to the waitlist. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Yes. After School members get two days of standard school holiday MTB programs per week of every school holiday period, at no cost beyond the monthly payment you already make. Nothing extra to pay. They do not have to be at your child’s usual location. Book any of our locations through the parent portal, which helps over the holidays when you might be somewhere else on the coast. Programs are subject to availability. Programs with transport (road trips and shuttle days), accommodation or third party providers are excluded. Term bookings do not include holiday programs. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Yes, subject to space in a suitable group. Changes are easiest at the end of a term, but talk to us any time and we will do what we can.
An Australian Standards approved helmet, enclosed shoes, water they can carry while riding, and a spare tube that fits their wheels. Riders without water or a spare tube will not be permitted to ride. We strongly recommend a full face helmet, full finger gloves and knee pads. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
Mountain biking involves speed, roots, rocks and the occasional trip over the bars. A standard helmet meets the requirement, but a full face also protects the jaw and face. It is a strong recommendation rather than a rule, except on road trips where it is compulsory.
Contact us. Multiple coaches run at most sessions, so an extra place can often be found, and we keep a waitlist.
Down whichever of our four development pathways suits your child. Lifestyle is where most riders end up, and it is the point of the whole thing: riding for fun, with mates, on road trips and holidays, for the rest of their life. Intro to race and performance race are there for riders who get drawn to competing. Instruct is for riders who go far enough to sit their PMBIA Level One and take casual work coaching with us.
Nobody is pushed down any of them. Plenty of riders stay in the after school program for years simply because they enjoy it, which is a perfectly good outcome.
Groups run at six to eight riders to a coach. That is small enough that every rider gets watched and spoken to individually in every session, rather than following a leader down a trail and hoping to pick it up.
All Bike On coaches hold PMBIA qualifications, the international mountain bike coaching accreditation, along with current first aid certification and a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
Your child’s coach posts an update in the Bike On app every week, covering what your child worked on and what they are focusing on next.
Behind that, coaches rate every rider against the individual skills that make up good riding, so progress is tracked against something specific rather than a general impression. Where seeing it helps more than hearing it, coaches capture a short video clip so your child can watch what their bike and body are actually doing.
A term booking is a one-off payment that holds your child’s place for the whole term, and it is final once paid. We roster coaches and set groups around it, and once a group is full we turn other riders away. So if your child stops partway through, for any reason, there is no refund, credit or transfer for the rest of the term.
Before you book a full term, be sure your child wants to ride the whole thing. If you are not sure yet, a monthly membership is the better choice: there is no minimum period and you can cancel any time. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
We do our best to put friends together, and it usually works out when they ride at a similar level.
We will not put a rider into a group they are not ready for, because that is no fun for them or the group. Riders can usually drop back a level if they ask.
Yes. We are a registered Play On! Sports Vouchers provider (the Queensland Government program that replaced FairPlay), and vouchers can be used on a monthly membership. Contact us for details on how to redeem yours.

Weekly sessions run during school term. In the school holidays we run holiday programs instead, and monthly members get two days a week included at no extra cost.
Sessions usually run on public holidays. The parent portal always confirms whether a session is on.
No. Every rider takes a place in a group with capped numbers, so each place is priced the same.
All our coaches hold current first aid certification. For minor knocks, we look after your child and let you know at the end of the session.
If your child needs to stop riding, we will contact you and work out the next step together. For anything serious, we get the situation under control first, including calling emergency services if needed, then contact you as soon as practical.
Just want to try it? Start monthly and cancel any time.
A monthly membership is how we do trials. No lock in, cancel any time, so all you are ever committing to is the month you are in.
We do not run single trial lessons, because one session is not enough for anyone. Your child needs a couple of weeks to settle in with a new coach and a group of kids they have not met, and the coach needs a few sessions to work out what your child actually needs to work on. A month gives everyone that.
Not sure whether mountain biking is their thing at all? A school holiday program is a lower commitment way to find out, with no membership involved.
