Getting the whole family peacefully out the door on holidays can sometimes feel like herding cats. Someone needs a nap, someone wants to go to the beach and absolutely nobody wants to sit in the car on Hastings Street. Family bike rides in Noosa are the solution. Many of the paths are flat and friendly and there’s always a playground or gelato stop within easy pedalling distance (even for little legs).

Whether you’re riding with a baby in a seat, a five-year-old on a tag-along or teenagers who want to go faster than you, this guide covers the easiest family routes, the right bike setup for each age, and how to get bikes delivered straight to your accommodation with Bike On.

Why Noosa Is Made for Family Bike Rides

Noosa boasts a network of shared paths that link the river, the beaches and the villages, so you can plan a whole day without getting back in the car. Most of the popular routes are flat and sealed, which matters when little legs are doing the work. Bike riding also takes the stress out of school holidays. Parking near the river and Hastings Street fills fast in peak season, but a bike rolls straight up to the playground, a restaurant or the sand.

Kid Friendly Bike Paths in Noosa

These are the routes we point families to first. Start short, plan a stop every 20 minutes or so, and let the kids set the pace.

Noosa River Foreshore, Noosaville

The riverfront path through Noosaville is the classic first family ride. It’s flat and paved, with the river on one side, plenty of shade, and calm river beaches where younger kids (or the young at heart) can splash around. Make sure you watch out for pelicans along the way!

Pirate Park, Noosaville

The Noosa River Pirate Park sits right on the Noosaville riverfront and is the perfect turnaround point for small riders. Kids can climb aboard the sunken ship while parents grab a coffee nearby. Our self-guided Pirate Park Kids Ride maps an easy loop around it.

Noosa Heads and Main Beach

For families with a bit more stamina, keep going towards Noosa Heads from the Noosa River. Rolling up to Main Beach by bike means no hunt for a park, a swim and an easy ride home once the kids have burnt off some energy.

For Older Kids: Lake Weyba and Tewantin Forest

Confident riders aged around 10 and up may be ready for something with a little more adventure. Our Lake Weyba and Tewantin Forest ride is rated generally relaxed but adds forest tracks and a real sense of exploration.

Bike Riding With Kids in Noosa: The Right Setup for Every Age

The right equipment makes the difference between a great family ride and a short one. Here’s how we match setups to ages.

Babies and Toddlers

For little ones who can sit up confidently, a cruiser or e-bike fitted with a rear baby seat (up to 16kg) is the simplest option. A Chariot trailer carries two kids (up to 35kg combined), has room for snacks and a sun cover, and is great for nap time on the move. Toddlers aged two to three can also bring a balance bike for the playground stops.

Little Kids Learning to Ride

A tag-along attaches to an adult’s bike so younger kids can pedal and steer while the grown-up controls speed and balance. It’s the best of both worlds for kids who want to ride but aren’t ready for busier paths. The Shotgun seat is another fun option, mounting a child (up to 22kg) on the front of a mountain bike.

Confident Kids

Once kids are steady on their own two wheels, our kids’ mountain bikes and BMX bikes handle the paths, parks and gravel with ease. Kids’ scooters are also available so the littlest siblings can keep up.

Teens

Teens can usually ride an adult-sized bike, and they’ll love the freedom of a hybrid or mountain bike. If they’re keen on trails, our school holiday mountain bike programs are a great way to build skills with other kids.

Tips for a Smooth Family Bike Ride in Noosa

  • Ride early. Mornings are cooler, paths are quieter and you’ll be home before the afternoon heat.
  • Pack water, sunscreen and snacks. Every hire with Bike On comes with a helmet, water bottle and lock.
  • Account for the potential for tired little legs. Build the ride around stops, not distance.
  • Book ahead in school holidays. Family setups like trailers and tag-alongs are especially popular in peak season.
