ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Get ready for an afternoon packed with downhill laps at Wooroi MTB Trails.

Riders shuttle straight to the top of the trail network before dropping into Wooroi’s fast, flowy descents. At the bottom, jump back on the shuttle, head straight back up and do it all again.

With the shuttle doing most of the climbing, riders get more time descending, more laps and plenty of opportunity to build confidence and skills on the trails.

Open to boys and girls, this program is designed for Upper Intermediate to Advanced riders who are confident riding intermediate trails at speed and in control.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

3 Hours of Riding

An action-packed afternoon session dedicated to getting plenty of time on the trails.

Shuttle Uplifts

The shuttle takes care of most of the climbing so riders can maximise their downhill laps.

Ability-Matched Groups

Choose Upper Intermediate or Advanced when booking so riders are matched with an appropriate group.

Professional Coaches

Experienced Bike On coaches supervise and support riders throughout the session.

Maximum Trail Time

Ride down, shuttle up and repeat, for more laps and less time climbing.

Is My Child Ready?

This program is for confident, regular mountain bikers who can ride intermediate terrain at speed and in control.

Riders need to be:

  • Comfortable descending blue trails at speed
  • Confident riding rougher trail terrain
  • Able to climb approximately 1km without dismounting
  • Regular MTB riders with good bike control
  • Able to safely maintain the pace of their selected group

Riders must choose Upper Intermediate or Advanced when booking. Due to limited shuttle capacity, group changes may not be possible on the day.

Groups and Coaches

Every session runs with multiple coaches and multiple groups, so your child rides at a level that suits them rather than at the pace of the strongest kid there. Groups run at six to eight riders to a coach, which is small enough that every rider gets watched and spoken to individually in every session.

All Bike On coaches hold PMBIA qualifications, the international mountain bike coaching accreditation. PMBIA uses a skills based method that breaks riding into its fundamentals and consolidates one at a time. It is the method behind everything we run, from a first afternoon on the trails through to the Advanced Development Program.

All coaches also hold current first aid certification and a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.

We do our best to let friends ride together, but we will not put a rider into a group they are not ready for. Riders can usually drop back a level if they ask.

Where This Leads

Bike On is built as a pathway rather than a class. A rider who starts in an after school group at seven has somewhere to go every year after that, and none of it has to be racing.

Nobody is pushed down any of these. Riders move when they want to, and plenty ride for fun the whole way through.

Lifestyle

Where most of our riders end up, and a real destination rather than a consolation prize. Riding for fun, riding with mates, road trips, holidays, trail building. A sport they will still be doing at forty.

Intro to race

For riders who get curious about the competitive side. Race focused lessons, coaching on the actual race trails beforehand and support on the day, so a first race is not a leap into the unknown.

Performance race

For riders who are serious about it. Race focused programs, strength and conditioning, pre race trail visits, race day support, and sponsorship for some.

Instruct

Riders who get far enough can sit their PMBIA Level One, take casual work with us as a junior MTB instructor, and go further from there. Several of our current coaches started here as students. It is one of very few junior sports where a teenager can turn the thing they love into a recognised qualification and a paid job.

DETAIL AND POLICIES

Typically suited to riders aged 10–17. There is no fixed age requirement. Suitability is primarily determined by riding ability, confidence and fitness. Please contact Bike On before booking if you're unsure.

Bike Requirements

  • Front suspension required; rear suspension strongly recommended
  • Disc brakes in good working order
  • Well-maintained and correctly adjusted gears
  • Trail tyres with good tread
  • 26″ wheels or larger
  • Well-maintained and serviced bike

Compulsory Equipment

  • Correct-size spare tube, including for tubeless bikes

Strongly Recommended

  • Full-face helmet
  • Knee and elbow pads
  • Full-finger gloves

Important. Unsafe bikes cannot be used, and parents cannot give permission for their child to ride a bike we consider dangerous. Riders without water, a way to carry it, and a spare tube that fits their bike will not be permitted to ride. There is no refund or credit where a rider cannot take part because of their bike or gear. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.

Term programs and monthly memberships. Term programs are priced on roughly 7 of 10 weeks running. We aim to run all 10, and we ride in the rain when it is safe. Storms or unsafe trails mean we postpone, change or cancel, and the notice goes up in the parent portal. There are no credits, refunds or make-up lessons for sessions cancelled for weather or missed for any reason, and we do not move riders between groups. If an unusually high number of sessions are cancelled, we look at it across the whole term and holiday period, not month by month. Full details are in our Booking Terms and Conditions.

School holiday programs. We ride in light rain. If we cancel a day because of weather or unsafe trails, the notice goes up in the parent portal. If you paid for the day, you can choose a credit or a refund. If your rider chooses not to come because of the weather, there is no credit or refund. Our standard change and cancellation terms apply to everything else. Members book included days through the parent portal, and should only book days their rider will attend. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.
