The bigger forest gravel loop

Yurol Forest Loop

A longer hinterland gravel loop from the shop: up Garmin Hill, out past Lake Macdonald to the forests between Cooroy and Pomona, then home down Ringtail Creek Road and past Lake Cooroibah. About 17 km of gravel, the rest on sealed roads. No need to bring your bike on holiday: we supply a premium gravel bike and load the route onto your phone.

Into the Forest Porters Firebreak, Porters Road and Ringtail Creek Road run almost 12 km through the forest without a town or a set of traffic lights. This is the part of the loop gravel riders come for.
Garmin Hill The ride opens with Gyndier Drive, a 3 km climb on the original Cooroy to Noosa road, closed to cars. Noosa Triathlon racers know it as Garmin Hill.
Lake Macdonald Lake Macdonald Drive runs beside the lake that supplies Noosa its water, the last bit of bitumen before the first gravel.
Farm Gravel Hamilton Road and Kennedys Road roll through open farmland on dirt roads, a gentle warm up for the forest roads that follow.
The Ringtail Creek Descent The forest section ends with a long, mostly downhill run on Ringtail Creek Road under tall timber. Fast, fun and earned.
2-for-1 at Land & Sea The ride finishes at the shop, directly across the road from Land & Sea Brewery. Grab a 2-for-1 drinks voucher from us when you get back. Trading hours vary, so check before you ride.

Ride Overview

From the shop the route climbs Gyndier Drive, the car free hill Noosa Triathlon racers know as Garmin Hill, then crosses the Tinbeerwah high country on Sunrise Road, Sivyers Road, Gumbiol Road and Clearview Drive to Lake Macdonald.

The gravel starts on Hamilton Road and Kennedys Road, through farmland toward Cooroy and Pomona. After a short sealed stretch on Yurol Forest Drive, Porters Firebreak, Porters Road and Ringtail Creek Road give you almost 12 km of unbroken forest gravel, the heart of the ride.

Ringtail Creek Road comes out on McKinnon Drive, and the streets of Cooroibah and the Lake Doonella pathway bring you home. It is 53 km with about 520 m of climbing and around 17 km of gravel, so it suits fit, confident riders who are comfortable on loose surfaces. Gravel roads change after rain, so ride to the conditions.
